About Screen Readers

    Screen readers are one part of assistive technology available today that is important to those whom are visually impaired, illiterate or learning disabled. Screen readers attempt to convey what people with normal eyesight see on displays to users via non-visual means such as text-to-speech or through braille devices it allows users with disabilities be able to navigate websites, read e-books and browse the internet. 

    Libraries employ screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver for patrons accessing library websites, databases and e-resources. Screen readers are incredibly important technology allowing those with impaired vision or disabilities be able to use the same technology as an able bodied individual.
