MPrzesmicki - Makerspaces

As defined by Helen Partridge and Anne Wong in 'Making as Learning; Makerspaces in Universities', "makerspaces are more than just places to make things; a makerspace is a physical location where people gather to share resources and knowledge, work on projects, network, and build." In their piece, they emphasize that makerspaces can be instrumental as teaching aids in learning environments. They provide hands-on engagement, and give room for individuals to learn new skills in a more casual (and cost-effective) environment. Furthermore, makerspaces provide opportunities to learn unique technologies that individuals may otherwise not have typical access to. For instance, 3-D printers are a common element of makerspaces, but are costly to acquire elsewhere.

They also provide the opportunity for patrons to share amongst themselves, deepening the crucial human connection, as "beginners often obtain assistance from other members." Makerspaces enable all individuals to become teachers within their communities, then, and patrons of all ages have the ability to benefit.
